The Case for Boring Technology
Every new technology spends innovation tokens. We spend ours deliberately, and keep the rest of the stack delightfully boring.
You get a small number of "innovation tokens." Spend them on the thing that's actually your differentiator, and keep everything else boring and well-understood.
What boring buys you
- A bigger hiring pool who already knows the tool.
- Years of other people's bug reports already fixed.
- Predictable failure modes you can write runbooks for.
Postgres, a queue, and a monolith will take most teams remarkably far.
